Web site facts and figures
I obviously have a keen interest in how many people choose to visit uk-2-usa.com. On the long term view, the trend is steadily upwards. However, over the short term, it does fluctuate wildly from day to day and week to week, often seemingly in tune with what is in the news.In terms of statistics, the big news this month is that the uk-2-usa website has passed 100,000 page views in late June. I know that in the age of the internet this is not a big number, but from my point of view its unbelievable that over 100,000 times, complete strangers have chosen to view pages I have put together.
June turned out to be the 2nd best month I've ever had for site visitors. I had just under 3,800 visitors to the site. It looked like it would be much better than that after the first two weeks of June, but numbers dropped off sharply at the end of the month. I would expect visitor numbers to drop during the summer months as the planning and researching is over for many and the holidays are starting.

uk-2-usa.com Competition
Back in newsletter 4, I offered a free guidebook to one of the newsletter readers. I received 3 entries so the winner had a 1 in 3 chance of winning, pretty good odds for a free book. However, things are never that easy. The book I had promised was National Parks of the American West by Fodors, a book I have used extensively for my own holiday planning. Unfortunately, despite trawling all of the local bookshops I could not find a copy. Undeterred I went to amazon.com, found the book and ordered it for direct delivery to the winner. After several weeks of waiting I got an e-mail from Amazon saying there had been a delay and it would take another 4-6 weeks, 6 weeks later I got another e-mail saying it would be delalyed again. Therefore, I have cancelled the order, bought an alternative National Parks guidebook, and will despatch it by post to the very patient winner.I thought it was time for another competition and so rather than go through the above drama again, I have already bought a second book for the prize, DK eyewitness travel guide to Southwest USA & Las Vegas. This book is the prize this time and I can guarantee it will be on its way to the lucky winner at the end of July because I already have it.
