Memphis is a music city. Beal Street (pictured to the right) is famous for its blues clubs and live music.
Memphis is said to be the home of Rock and Roll and has produced legends like Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis and BB King. You can still visit Sun Studios where Elvis made his first ever record as a present to his Mother.
Memphis is also synonymous with the recent history of civil rights. Dr Martin Luther King was assasinated here at the Lorraine Motel. This now forms part of the National Civil Rights Museum
Of course there is also Gracelands a world famous tourist and Elvis fan destination (pictured here behind the bust of Elvis). This is worthy of a visit even if you are not an Elvis fan to soak up the atmosphere and understand a little about the life of this modern day legend.
