place
Boulder city is a good place to stay if you want to spend some time around Lake Mead and Hoover Dam. As a town its not all that inspiring as it was basicly built in the 1930s as a 'camp' for all the Dam labourers and their families to live in. Having said that there is nothing wrong with the place it just somehow didn't have the character/identity that many small towns do have
Lake Mead is the lake produced by the damming of the Colorado. There is a Marina just along
the northern shore of the lake from Boulder City where you can have a meal, but the thing we
remember it for is the fish. I dont know the species but they are quite big maybe up to a couple
of feet long. Huge shoals of these circulate around the floating pontoons that the marinas
restaurant is on waiting for food to be thrown to them. When some bread is thrown in they swarm
so aggresively for it that the fish near the surface are forced up out of the water by the fish
below. The water literally boils with fish. The shop on the pontoon actually sold loaves of
bread to feed the fish with. It has to be seen to be believed.
You can hire boats or go on dinner cruises on the lake.
