USA offers and travel news.

Bargain !
Our partners Complete North America are delighted to be able to offer some fantastic reductions on their already discounted rates with British Airways to reward those customers who are ready to confirm their 2005 holidays now. This offer is for flights avoiding high season in 2005 if you book before the 2nd February 2005. An additional reward for booking early is that you can secure your booking for a low deposit of £50 per person rather than the usual £150 per person. This offer is of course subject to availability.

New off beat flydrive idea
Here is an idea for the young, or the young at heart amongst you. Hire a restored 1970's VW camper van and live in the south California beach scene. Seeing the sites, surfing and camping out in your "car rental, hotel room, restaurant, and time machine all rolled into one". Click here to learn more.
To quote from the site itself
"Live today that uniquely Californian dream you've nurtured for years. Grab the stoke of the famous Californian beaches where modern surf culture began: Malibu, Doheny, San Onofre, Swami's, Trestles, Ventura, Santa Cruz, La Jolla, Laguna, Rincon, Manhattan, Redondo, Haggarty's. You'll have entrée with our bus as your cover! Surf and hang like a local under the hot sun by day and warm your Hurachi sandals by a crackling beach bonfire under the stars by night. Then curl up in your home away from home and awake to the sound of the soothing surf."

Take a spring time break
This is the time of year when most US tourists choose winter vacations in the warmer climates of southern destinations. Florida, California, Arizona and Las Vegas are popular winter vacation destinations. Early spring is usually a great time for visiting Florida, Arizona or Southern California. The average daily temperature climbs from 65 F (18 C) in March to 75 F (24 C) in May. During these early spring months, the chance of rainy weather is rather low in Florida or California and almost non-existent in Arizona. Golfers often choose this time of year to visit the courses in Florida, California and Arizona.

New England
There is virutally nothing on the uk-2-usa.com website about New England. If you are interested in the region try this site. Its jam packed with information about the region and is written by Vlad and Carol a couple with local knowledge.

Restructuring flight fares
There is a change taking place which sees superb bargains for travelling business class as long as you book the seats well in advance. This change has been precipitated by Delta Airlines first and the other Airlines quickly following read more here. For example now on Continental Airlines, a Newark-to-London business-class seat is priced at $1,920 round-trip for people who can book 50 days in advance - or more than 75 percent less than the walk-up fare of $8,314, not including taxes and fees.

United Airlines and others
No major changes to report with United Airlines and US Airways still in Chapted 11 bancrupcy protection, Delta on the brink of going the same way and all the other majors struggling to retain profitability.

USA flight price survey

This survey is for travel in August 2005. All quotes were taken on 12th January 2005 for a return journey for one adult out on the 10th August and back on the 17th August (both Wednesdays - normally the cheapest day to travel). The average prices from surveys for the same journeys in 2003 and 2004 are shown for comparison, as are the prices for the same flights quoted in October last year.

Perhaps not surprisingly, as before given the problems the airlines are having with lack of profitability, there seems to be an attempt to push prices even higher at this stage. From what I have seen in previous years, this is unlikely to last and competition will bring the prices down as we go through into the new year and the peak booking time. Travel4Less's flight search engine was out of service during the time of the survey and so their prices are not included.

Yet again the message loud and clear from this survey is to shop around. On each of the flights you could save £30-£60 by picking the cheapest quote rather than the most expensive.

As is now the convention in these surveys, the cheapest quote for a given journey is highlighted in red.
