USA travel news and tips

British Midland have announced a new route from Manchester to Las Vegas direct. They are offering special rates for an introductory period.
Check here for the story. This could be a great way to get out to the western USA

Expedia are currently offering deals to Miami with 7 nights accommodation from £448 with American Airlines and the same deal to Los Angeles from £555

Passports and visas
On the 20th June this story was in the Sunday Times. Congress has approved a one year delay to the October 26th 2004 deadline for biometric passports. If the UK government can get its act together and have biometric passports by then, we will be not be faced with having to get a visa to travel to the USA. I have not seen this reported elswhere and so cannot vouch for its accuracy.

United Airlines
I've been reporting the status of United Airlines for some time now. It still looks difficult for the giant airline. This story explains how they are deferring pension scheme payments.

THe good news for us and the bad news for United is that there is a price war breaking out and there will be Bargain airfares this autumn. Click here to return to the top of the page.

USA flight price survey

In this survey, e-bookers comes out as the best value with expedia an honourable second place. This survey throws up a real surprise for me namely how just one month from the date of travel the flight prices to Orlando from London and Manchester have dropped. Presumably this is due to oversupply causing the price to drop to fill seats. This is spectacularly true for the Manchester - Orlando route.

This survey was conducted on 19th July for a single return adult fare departing on 18th August and returning on 25th August. As normal, the cheapest fare is highlighted in red.
