Site history
The idea for this site began in 1999 when my family and I were preparing for what had become our annual 3 week holiday to America from the UK. We considered ourselves very experienced travellers to the USA and had decided to try making one of the journey legs via Amtrak.
We set about scouring the internet for information and found many excellent sites full of relevant information about the route and the facillities on the trains. However, we could not find any information about Tucson station (our departure point) or Orlando station (our destination). I could not find out where they were, how to pick up a hire car there, it seemed that nowhere had much train or train station information for the total novice.
I tried every search I could think of and posted information requests on as many vaguely relevant newsgroups as I could. All to no avail. I am sure the information I wanted existed somewhere in cyber space, but I could not find it.
What I needed to do was to pose a question or set of questions to somebody who has 'been there
and done that'. How do you get in touch with such a person or people? I needed a site like this one. So here it is. I decided to learn how to programme in HTML and this is
the result. I hope you find it useful to help you plan your holiday.
The site went live on 30th March 2001
I am a married middle aged Englishman (Yorkshireman to be more precise) with two boys. Running this website is my hobby (ask my wife how many hours I spend on it!).
If you read the section about who am I ? you will read that I value my own privacy and that is the position I take with my web site visitors.
www.uk-2-usa.com is a privately owned website. It was written to share the authors passion for travel to the USA. It is none commercial in nature with all information and advice being freely given, although commission is earned on any holidays sold through the site.

The links to other sites on my Links page are links that I have personally reviewed and believe will be useful for my site visitors to find out more about flydrives to America. A consequence of this is that none of the links on the links page are even slightly "off topic" for people seeking information on USA flydrives.
The site ran and visitor numbers grew steadily for the next two years. What also grew was the number of people e-mailing requesting holiday quotations even though the site was clearly none commercial. In response to this demand, in February 2003 a facility for providing holiday quoatations was introduced to the site in conjunction with a leading USA travel specialist company.
In January 2006 the site was beginning to look very old fashioned and my creaky HTML programming was showing. I decided I had to update and learnt about XHTML strict programming and cascading style sheets. The current website is the result.

Links Policy
This is not the case on many other websites. If you visit the links page (or often pages) of other sites you will often see hundreds and hundreds of links that are at best only marginally "on topic". These are normally links to sites that have agreed to reciprocally link back to the site you are on. These reciprocal links are only there to help the sites show up in search engines (Google in particular) they are not there to help the site visitor at all.
If you are reading this because you are seeking a reciprocal link for your own site or a site that you represent, please do not waste your time and mine by requesting a reciprocal link if your site is not directly relevant to the interests of my site visitors. If you have a web site that you believe is directly relevant and you have already placed a link to my site on yours and your links page is obviously crafted for the benefit of your visitors not the search engines then and only then will I review your site to see if I will link to it.
For reciprocal link enquiries that satisfy the above criteria, e-mail by clicking here.
