North California & Southern Oregon

The central portion of this holiday was the 12 day loop through northern California and southern Oregon described here. We preceded this drive with 5 days in Las Vegas before flying to San Francisco. We ended the holiday with a short flight to Los Angeles and 5 days in Disney Land making the whole thing just over 3 weeks.

The itinerary for the flydrive route is below.

Day 1 We flew in from Las Vegas and were in the car leaving the airport around lunch time. We Drove north from San Francisco to Oroville California, a drive of 150 miles.
Day 2 Drove north to Lassen Volcanic National Park. Saw Lassen, drove on to stay in Burney California. A total of 160 miles in the day
Day 3 Still heading north, saw the Lava Beds and crossed over into Oregon, stayed in Klamath Falls Oregon after driving 130 miles.
Day 4 North again to Crater Lake National Park. From there head west and stay in Grants Pass Oregon. The days drive was 200 miles which includes the 30 mile drive around the rim of Crater Lake.
Day 5 Head west towards the coast seeing Cave Junction and Oregon Caves National Monument along the way. See the Redwood National Park, stay in Klamath. Total drive for the day is 100 miles direct or 140 miles with the detour to Oregon caves.
Day 6 Stayed in the Redwood area all day.
Day 7 Drove south down the California coast, stayed in Fort Bragg/Mendocino. A total drive of 200 miles.
Day 8 We had planned to spend a relaxing 3 days by the coast but the weather was freezing and foggy in August !. Therefore we headed inland to the heat and stayed at Willits. A drive of 35 miles.
Day 9 Stayed in Willits
Day 10 We headed down to the wine country, saw the Napa Valley then drove to stay in Santa Rosa. 140 miles were driven during the day.
Day 11 We saw the Sonoma Valley and then drove to a hotel close to San Francisco airport, around 70 miles of driving.
Day 12 An early start to fly down to LA and Disney Land .
